Our Unique Scholarship ProgramThe Amount: $cholarship amounts for the next year are determined by the members at their annual meeting..At the July 4, 2010 meeting at Jubilee Park Pavilion the membership voted to again award three Class of 2011 grads $cholarships of $2,500 each. In addition and new in 2010 is the SOFCU Roni Rausch Broeffle Community Service Award of $500 from funds donated by SOFCU. The Process: Choosing our recipients begins in January when applications are delivered to IVHS for distribution to the senior class. They are picked up in May and five copies of each application are prepared and delivered to the screening committee chair who distributes them to the other four screeners. This gives the screeners ample time to privately study the applications before huddling together in June to painstakingly choose the finalists for presenting to the voting corpus. Just prior to voting week board members scramble madly to timely produce and assemble the copies of finalists' applications and the voting packets for the possible 100 voters. On Saturday afternoon of Reunion Weekend following the close of voting at noon, three screeners and at least one board member meet at Kerbyville Museum, count the votes, notify the recipients, and invite them to be introduced the next day at the close of the final Reunion Weekend event - breakfast and silent auction at Jubilee Park Pavilion. The Voting Corpus: One vote from each class; one vote from each teacher retired from any I.V. public school (that we can find); one vote from each of the five screening committee members. Class voters can be a designated voter chosen by the class, a current or past class reunion organizer, a class president, or simply a class member who would like to vote. Some classes pass around the privilege from year to year. The Voting Week: 2011 Voting Week begins Monday June 27 and ends at Noon Saturday July 2. There are two polling places: Kerbyville Museum for voters residing in Illinois Valley, and a private residence in Grants Pass for voters from GP, Medford and environs. Voters receive instruction letters prior to the start of voting week.
The Help Needed: Locating voters is often difficult - particularly from younger classes who have yet to hold a reunion - and retired teachers! If you are not now on the voting list and would like to represent your class as a voter, or are a teacher retired from any I.V. public school, please email us here
The Thank You: $cholarship funds come from the hard work of volunteers: Reunion Weekend event organizers, class reunion organizers, reunion classes who donate funds raised during class reunions, attendance at these events and direct donations to the $cholarship Fund. We thank you and our recipients thank you! Please use the form under SUPPORT US to help continue this important program.
